Who is Your Target Audience Anyway?

It’s time. You need a new website, or simply you need a website. You’re ready to grow your business via the Internet and you’re in search for the best way to optimize your website for that. You start looking at building your own website, but quickly get overwhelmed by the task when you realize that they say it is “simple” but you can’t figure it out (It’s okay if that’s happened to you, it’s happened to a lot of people we know!). So, you started looking at website design companies, but there are so many out there you really don’t know who to pick. You ask friends, relatives, acquaintances for recommendations, and you find, they all have a story to tell, and in the end, you still don’t know where to begin.

You need to find someone you like and trust. Once you find them they will help you through the process. For as many sleezy and bad website companies there are out there, there are a lot of good ones too (like us), I promise!

But, this article isn’t really about hiring a website designer. It’s about understanding what you need and your vision, and finding someone who understands, and can help you think about it, and achieve even more than you thought you could when you set out.

Who is Your Target Audience? Do More to Find Out!

What do I mean by this?

Let me walk you through a typical conversation I would have with a new client.

They’ve reached out to me because they are interested in building a website for their business. So, we set-up a phone call to talk about what they are looking for. Here are some important questions I am going to ask them so I can find out what they really want (maybe they don’t know what it is they want yet):

  1. Do you currently have a website? If so what is it? And, what isn’t working about it for you?
  2. What is your goal for your new website? What do you want the website to do for you?
  3. How will having a website make your life easier?
  4. Who do you want to come to your website? Who is your target audience?
  5. What do you want your website visitor to do when they are on your website?
  6. What websites do you like?
  7. What websites (if any) do you hate?
  8. What is your budget?

Interesting questions right?

But, they will tell me more than you think, about what you want and what you actually need (these are 2 different things remember). For example, you may tell me you LOVE one website, but your target audience, is totally not the intended audience for that particular website. This will allow me to expand on my questions, and be able to better explain to you what you need to think about, and that sometimes a site that works for your business, is not at all one that you would have designed, because you aren’t your businesses target audience!

So, when you’re looking for someone to help you build your website, you want someone who is honest with you, someone who will tell you what you NEED not what you want to hear. And, if they don’t ask who your target audience is, run! It means they aren’t actually interested in HELPING you, they care more about helping themselves.

We’re interested in helping you. Shoot us an email at getstarted@crearemarketing.com and let us know who your target audience is. Then, we’ll help you reach them.
